Level 2 Award in Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace October 2026

Overview

This is a 10-week course, delivered over 11 weeks, class time is 3 hours per week with an additional requirement for 3 to 4 hours per week of home study, assignments, research etc

Written assignments, which on occasion may overlap, are an integral part of the course and that its essential appropriate time is allocation to both completing and submitting these on time.

The minimum attendance criteria is 80%

In addition to the time in class, there is a breakfast morning, typically held the Saturday of week 6 and that this is an integral part of the learning and is a mandated requirement.

The enhanced learning includes elements of whole class discussion, individual work, group activities and skills sessions and that participation in all aspects of the learning is essential.

The course is made up on 30 hours in class (this will include whole class work, study groups and practical skill sessions. In addition, students will be expected to complete seven written assignments, typical commitment outside of classwork is around 20 hours.

Course Content

Throughout this two-day course, you will:

  • Understand mental health and its importance in the workplace
  • Learn about roles and legislation relating to workplace mental health
  • Develop awareness of common mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and self-harm
  • Understand how to apply a Mental Health First Aid Action Plan

The course covers essential topics including:

  • The meaning and importance of mental health
  • Roles and responsibilities in workplace mental health
  • Relevant legislation and employer responsibilities
  • Promoting positive mental health culture
  • Implementing core mental health standards
  • Recognising signs of work-related stress, anxiety, depression, and other conditions
  • Applying the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan

Course Requirements
A successful interview (see ‘Enrolment Process).
This counselling skills course is available to anyone over the age of 18, however, due to the nature of the course, emotional resilience and an ability to reflect and draw on life experiences is essential.

You will need to understand the demanding and personal nature of the course. Whilst this course is by no means ‘therapy’ for some it can present an emotional challenge. We therefore ask you to consider whether you are able to take on the course at this time. For example, we welcome applications from those who have experience of therapy, however, joining the course whilst still in therapy needs to be given careful consideration.

Please note: if you have been in recovery we ask that you have been clear for a minimum of six months before applying for this course.

The course will run subject to minimum numbers being reached.

Progression
Successful completion of this course will provide you with one of the entrance requirements for SEG Certificate in Counselling Skills Level 3.

Please note that progression from the Level 2 programme onto the Level 3 programme is not automatic. You are advised to check with your tutors regarding selection procedures which may require further evidence of your suitability to progress to Level 3.

Enrolment Process
To enrol in our Level 2 Counselling Concepts course, in the first instance you should complete the ‘Apply Now’ application form, after which you will receive an email acknowledging your application has been received.

Next, we will contact you to conduct a short interview (these interview may take place over the telephone, by use of Zoom or at the centre itself)

Following the interview successful applications will be offered a place on the course. Acceptance of this offer will mean that the course fee is payable.

NB: The centre reserves the right to cancel the course (providing a full refund) dependent on student numbers

This course starts on Tuesday 12th January at 6:00pm-9:00pm and runs weekly (in line with the centre’s term dates)
