Course Content Understanding the context for the use of counselling skills Understanding counselling theory Using counselling skills Personal development for users of counselling skills Student Pack The Level 3 Student Pack includes: Book: ‘Next Steps in Counselling’ Personal Journal Portfolio leaver arch file, with labelled dividers Course Requirements You must have English level 4 (GCSE – C) or above. Hold a ABC Level 2 Counselling Concepts certificate (course to have been completed in the last 3 years). A satisfactory reference from your level 2 tutor. A successful interview (see ‘Enrolment Process). The course is available to anyone over the age of 18, however, due to the nature of the course, emotional resilience and an ability to reflect and draw on life experiences is essential. You will need to understand the demanding and personal nature of the course. Whilst this course is by no means ‘therapy’ for some it can present an emotional challenge. We therefore ask you to consider whether you are able to take on the course at this time. Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling   Course Content Professional organisational issues in counselling Counselling in a diverse society Counselling theory Advanced counselling skills Self-awareness for counsellors Research methodologies Course Requirements You must have English GCSE grade 4 (level 4) or above. Hold a ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills (course to have been completed in the last 3 years). A satisfactory reference from your level 3 tutor. A successful interview (see ‘Enrolment Process). DBS check (dated within 3 months of the start of the course). Complete a student membership with BACP (this will be submitted at the start of the course and is at your own expense). During the course you must Undertake 100 hours of placement work. Complete at least 20 hours in one-to-one counselling with a BACP accredited therapist Undertake a minimum of 13, ninety minute one-to-one sessions with an appropriately qualified supervisory counsellor. (NB: one ninety minute session is required for every twelve hours on placement work.) You will need to understand the demanding and personal nature of the course. Overview This 10 week course in counselling skills Level 2 Counselling Concepts runs over 11 weeks with week 6 as ‘half-term’. The course is made up on 30 hours in class (this will include whole class work, study groups and practical skill sessions. In addition, students will be expected to complete seven written assignments, typical commitment outside of classwork is around 20 hours. Course Content The professional context of counselling Communications Skills in helping relationships An Introduction to Personal Development Half-Term Breakfast At the end of week 5 (as you head into a half-term break) we will host a breakfast morning. This is a unique opportunity to meet not just with members of your own class but students from other level 3 classes. Here you get to discuss assignments, to share and explore insights in an informal and relaxed environment.
